On September 11, 2009, A Sister City Relationship was established between the cities of Greenville, Mississippi and Greenville, Sinoe, Republic of Liberia. Nurturing that relationship was Greenville Development Association, in collaboration with Robert Nash, a native of Greenville, MS. and Hon. Cynthia Blandford-Nash, Liberia’s Consul-General accredited to Atlanta. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two cities will further friendly diplomatic relations, enhance cultural and historic understanding and cooperation, and promote international trade. Both cities share historical ties, as the city of Greenville, Sinoe, was settled by freed men and women from Greenville, MS in 1838. These resettled men and women, together with the indigenous inhabitants, built the City of Greenville, Liberia.
