The Greenville Development Association (GDA), Inc-USA a 501c humanitarian and project-based organization whose mission is laser-focused on advancing health and education for the citizenry of Greenville, Sinoe County, Liberia – West Africa celebrated her ninth anniversary in the beautiful city of Atlanta, Georgia – September 9, 2017.
The festivity included a dinner and ball with fundraising activities to advance the organization’s work. Mrs. Christine Pratt-Anderson, 2017 Fundraising Chairlady, welcomed members, patrons, and friends who came from all over the United States to support these worthy causes. Dr. Glen Moore, President & CEO, Moore and Moore Unlimited, Inc. served as the Guest Speaker and Dr. Willnella Patray Peters, Optometrist and Executive Director and Founder of Helping Eyes Against Loss of Sight (HEALS), was GDA 2017 Honoree.
The theme for this year is advancing Education and Health in Sinoe County, Liberia and in pursuant of this goal, Mr. Matthew Elious, Project Coordinator, reported to the general body at our Annual Meeting and celebration that GDA vetted and awarded the Professor Harold J. Monger Memorial Scholarship to two deserving students for academic year 2017 – 2018: the honored students were Maphina Jah, Junior at Adventist College Nursing Program; and, Cornelius Nyan, Junior at the University of Liberia School of Engineering. It was unanimously agreed at the Annual Meeting that each year one or two additional student(s) will be added to the Scholarship Program based on cash flow from pledges and fundraising activities. This was one of the notable milestones and emphasis for this year fundraising drive. The ultimate objective is to prepare these students to assume future leadership roles in the county.
On Sunday, Sept 10, 2017, members of the organization worshipped together at the Suwanee Worship Center United Methodist Church in Suwanee, Georgia where Pastor Ted Nugget admonished the congregation including members of GDA to connect with God, connect with people, discover your purpose, seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit and make a difference in the lives of God’s people. Our Coordinator, Juris Cooper reminded the congregation that our organization’s mission is an extension of the Gospel message as we seek to address the needs of our less fortunate brothers and sisters in Greenville, Liberia.
Mr. Juris Cooper, GDA Executive Coordinator, applauded the members for working assiduously over the past nine years to help their fellow Greenvillians in providing needed health supplies and repairs to the F.J. Grante Hospital and now making significant progress on the education front. He also thanked the attendees for their continuous support and persistence in working with GDA to affect positive change and make relevant difference in the lives of the people of Greenville, Sinoe County, Liberia.
This is the essence and core of the Greenville Development Association (GDA) and the reason members are so devoted and passionate about fulfilling her mission. Please join us and check out our website for
